The EU-funded technical assistance project "Improved Promotion and Marketing of Traditional Foods" implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (SMBDA) has been completed.

The project has been implemented since May 2019 in Ganja-Dashkasan, Gazakh-Tovuz, Guba-Khachmaz, Central Aran, Mil-Mugan and Shirvan-Salyan economic regions. Within the framework of the project, legislation affecting the promotion and marketing of traditional agricultural and food products was analyzed and recommendations were prepared, trainings, seminars and round tables were organized for target groups, educational material on healthy eating and nutrition of schoolchildren and the public, and “Traditional Azerbaijani food products, nutrition and healthy eating” curriculum for students was developed, 10 traditional food products were identified and measures were taken to promote them.

An event dedicated to the results of the project was held on April 1 with the participation of representatives of the Ministries of Economy and Agriculture, the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan, SMBDA, the Food Safety Agency and other government agencies, as well as international and local experts.

At the event, Rufat Atakishiyev, Deputy Chairman of the Board of SMBDA, Viktor Bajkov, Head of the Cooperation Department of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan, Volodymyr Yakubov, Project Director, Manfred Shussel, Project Manager and experts shared their views on the importance of promotion and marketing of agricultural and traditional food products, the results achieved within the project, the tools and methods used, the joint activities of relevant agencies. It was noted that traditional food products are important for the sustainable development of agriculture, as well as micro, small and medium enterprises. Azerbaijan has great potential in agriculture and food. In order to increase sales, export and recognition of traditional food products, these products should be widely promoted at the national and international levels, a systematic marketing policy should be pursued, and marketing measures among producers should be strengthened.

At the same time, the application of quality assurance schemes and quality standards for traditional food products is important in terms of ensuring safety, selling the product more and at a higher price.

At the end, the questions of the participants about the results achieved within the project were answered.
