On December 25, the Public-Private Partnership Development Center of the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (SMBDA), with the support of the Azerbaijan Energy Regulatory Agency (AERA), organized a webinar on the application of PPP operations in the power engineering sector for entrepreneurs and the opportunities for SMBs.
The purpose of the event, which was attended by more than 20 entrepreneurs, was to provide information on business opportunities in the energy sector, encourage the active participation of entrepreneurs in projects in this sector, as well as the involvement of private investment in the energy sector through the application of PPP mechanism, wider participation of SMBs in the implementation of such projects.
The Chairman of the Management Board of the SMBDA, Orkhan Mammadov, noted that following the new era's challenges, the digitalization of SMBs and supporting the green economy in the post-pandemic period had been included in the action plan of SMBDA as a new priority task. One of the important elements of the economic development strategy in the post-pandemic period is expanding the application of the PPP mechanism. Informing about the PPP model, the activity of the Public-Private Partnership Development Center operating under the Agency, the chairman of SMBDA noted that the power engineering sector was one of the sectors where PPP models were widely used in international practice. It was stated that the opportunities of applying PPP mechanisms in the large-scale projects to restore and reconstruct the infrastructure destroyed in our territories liberated as a result of the Patriotic War, including the energy infrastructure, will be considered. The entrepreneurs willing to set up a business in the liberated areas can submit their business projects to SMBDA.
The Chairman of the Board of Azerbaijan Energy Regulatory Agency (AERA), Samir Akhundov, greeted the webinar participants and congratulated them on the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. By providing brief information about the Agency's activities, he said that since its establishment, the Agency has participated in the regulation of the energy market, drafted many laws, contributed to the preparation of regulations, conducted market researches, cooperated with many international energy and financial institutions, foreign energy regulatory agencies. It was noted that the work to be done in the relevant area would create opportunities for the formation of individual entrepreneurship and investment in the energy sector. It was also pointed out that the work should be carried out to restore the existing and destroyed energy power in the liberated territories.
The webinar was followed by discussions, while AERA and SMBDA representatives answered the questions from entrepreneurs.
