"We could talk about more tangible success and results in the Tourism sector if it would not be for the challenges and constraints posed by the global pandemic. However, we are confident that during the post-pandemic period, the Tourism sector will still remain active, maintain its status as a priority area in the country's economy and develop in line with new challenges. It should be noted in particular that our territories liberated from occupation last year as a result of the 44-day War of aggression under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Mr. Ilham Aliyev have a wide tourism potential. This opens up broad prospects for the business entities in the Tourism sector. In this direction, SMBDA, the State Tourism Agency and the associations operating in this field should unite their efforts in the form of joint cooperation". Chairman of the Board of the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (SMBDA) Orkhan Mammadov briefed about this at the reporting event of Association of Travel Agencies of Azerbaijan on the work implemented in 2020. It was noted at the online event that SMBDA is ready to attract local and foreign investments to the liberated territories, to implement necessary support measures, coordination, and joint cooperation.

The event also highlighted tourism-related projects implemented by SMBDA together with the State Tourism Agency last year, including the joint cooperation of SMBDA, the State Tourism Agency and Baku Landscaping Service LLC to turn Balakhani settlement into a new tourist destination. The activities of a new tourist complex opened in Astara and will be important in the development of domestic and cross-border tourism during the post-pandemic period were also highlighted. Furthermore, SMBDA-organized stand at the MUSIAD Expo 2020 exhibition held in Istanbul demonstrated the economic and investment potential of the liberated territories of Azerbaijan.

It should be noted that the online event organized by Azerbaijani Association of Travel Agencies was attended by Deputy of Milli Majlis, representatives of the Ministry of Economy, SMBDA, State Tourism Agency, representatives of Azerbaijan Tourism Board and Azerbaijan Airlines LLC, as well as entrepreneurs engaged in the Tourism sector.
