KOBİA Answered Questions of Interest to Entrepreneurs and Investors Regarding the Investment Portal

Expanding access of small and medium business (SME) entities to financial resources and increasing investment opportunities are important. For this purpose, various platforms and support tools are available to support SMEs in this area. One of them is the Investment Portal (invest.smb.gov.az), established in 2022 by KOBİA (Small and Medium Business Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan).

The Portal has been established with the purpose of expanding investment opportunities of SMEs in Azerbaijan and access to financial resources. The purpose of establishing the Portal is to create a bridge between local business entities and domestic and foreign investors. Business entities that are seeking investment or wish to sell their existing businesses can present their projects and business proposals to a broad audience of investors through this platform.

Advantages of the Portal

The platform creates an opportunity for both individual and institutional investors who wish to obtain high returns by investing their funds in promising projects. Thus, investors can access the platform, conveniently select projects corresponding to their interests and, in this way, save the time that they would otherwise spend searching for projects. By investing in projects posted on the Portal, investors also support projects of SMEs and can contribute to their development, as well as to the creation of new products and services. The Portal creates an opportunity for investors to establish direct contact with project owners, obtain additional information, as well as discuss cooperation opportunities. The Portal also creates an opportunity for foreign investors to become acquainted with business initiatives implemented in various sectors of the economy of Azerbaijan and to invest in promising projects.

The User and Project Base of the Investment Portal Is Expanding

The Portal is open for posting projects in all fields of activity that comply with the legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan. To date, 173 projects have been posted on the Portal. Of these projects, 147 relate to attracting investments, 4 are investment proposals, and 22 relate to the sale of existing businesses. The respective projects cover agriculture, industry, services, manufacturing and other fields.

To date, more than 1,300 entrepreneurs, investors and startups have registered on the invest.smb.gov.az website in order to become acquainted with relevant projects and to post their projects on the Portal. During the last year, the number of visits to the Portal has exceeded 29,000.

Why Should Startups Use the Portal?

The Investment Portal also creates new financing opportunities for startups. Startups with innovative business ideas can post their projects on the platform, present them to a broad audience of investors, attract the attention of potential investors and obtain an opportunity to secure the financial support required for the development of their projects. In this regard, the Portal serves as one of the important tools facilitating market entry for startups and supporting their growth and commercialization.

How Can I Post My Project on the Portal?

Projects are posted on the Portal by entrepreneurs, investors and startups themselves. For this purpose, it is necessary to register on the Portal and enter the relevant information. In this process, the main issues to which the Agency pays attention are the complete and accurate submission of the required information, the availability of a business plan, the consistency between the project value and the requested investment amount, the expected profitability of the project, as well as the correct presentation on the Portal of other information that may be of interest to investors.

No fee is required for using the Portal. The process of posting projects on the Portal is simple and convenient. Entrepreneurs and startups who have additional questions regarding the use of the Portal may contact the Call Center of KOBİA via number 131.

Special attention is paid on the Investment Portal to ensuring the security and confidentiality of information. Project owners determine themselves the scope of information that they wish to share on the Portal and may provide general information about their projects without disclosing information constituting commercial secrets or information that they consider sensitive. Establishment of contacts with investors is carried out based on the consent of the project owner and the contact information provided by the project owner.

The Portal serves as a platform for establishing contacts between investors and project owners. Negotiations conducted between the parties, agreements reached, terms of cooperation and the amount of investment made are determined by the parties themselves, and no third party intervenes in the process.
