A Working Group meeting was held under the framework of the project “Technical Assistance on Pilot Provision of University Students with Residential Facilities and Services in Baku within the Public-Private Partnership” at the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (SMBDA) of the Republic of Azerbaijan on December 10.

Representatives of the Ministries of Economy and Education, SMBDA, Baku State University, and Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University, as well as Asian Development Bank, and consulting companies attended the meeting.

Orkhan Mammadov, Chairman of the Board of SMBDA, and Head of the Working Group said construction of student dormitories for Baku State University and Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University is the first such public-private partnership (PPP) project in our country, and the successful implementation of the project would create a positive experience for future PPP projects. It was emphasized that PPP projects are given particular attention in our country, taking into account the importance of the attraction of foreign investments into the country's economy, an increase in the share of the private sector in the economy, creation of new jobs, and optimization of public investment costs. To this end, the Center for Development of Public-Private Partnership has been set up at SMBDA, and this center will play an important role in the promotion and implementation of PPP projects.

A presentation was delivered on the activities undertaken by consulting companies, which were involved in the implementation of the mentioned technical assistance project and its current state, and the exchange of views was held on forthcoming tasks and the next steps to be taken to address them.

It should be noted that the Asian Development Bank supports the “Technical Assistance on Pilot Provision of University Students with Residential Facilities and Services in Baku within the Public-Private Partnership” project.
