“Prosperous Absheron” project in Novkhani 25.06.20

Residents of Novkhani settlement of Absheron region benefited from the "Prosperous Absheron" project jointly implemented by the Small and Medium Business Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SMBDA) and "Baku Landscaping Service" LLC.

With the participation of the Chairman of the Board of SMBDA Orkhan Mammadov and the Director of "Baku Landscaping Service" LLC Binnat Ali Gasimov, various plants (lavender, rosemary, etc.) were presented to the families living in Novkhani settlement. In general, the project envisages the provision of 250-1000 different plants to each of the 300 families living in Novkhani. Each family will take care of these plants for a monthly fee. The plants will be taken back from the families within 6-12 months and can be replaced with new ones at their request.

The significance of the Prosperous Absheron project in the current quarantine situation related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is that families earn extra income and support family budgets by growing plants in their backyards without leaving their homes.

The goal of the "Prosperous Absheron" project is to support the development of self-employment, higher incomes of low-income families and the development of households, as well as increase greenery, crop production and agricultural processing. The plants grown under the project are currently used in landscaping. In the future, these plants will be used in processing, production of various cosmetic and pharmaceutical products and oils, as well as export as raw materials.

In general, within the framework of the "Prosperous Absheron" project implemented since the beginning of this year, it is planned to provide about 200,000 different plants to about 800 low-income families living in Balakhani, Zira and Novkhani settlements. The "Prosperous Absheron" project will be implemented in the next stage in Ramana and Shuvalan settlements.

It should be noted that, “BIRGE” LLC established by SMBDA and “Balakhani Green Garden” operating under “Baku Landscaping Service” LLC signed a cooperation agreement on implementation of “Prosperous Absheron” project in April this year.
