Round table on intellectual property

At the round table on the topic "Development of the modern intellectual property ecosystem: evolution of intellectual property offices and training of specialists", with the involvement of representatives of the World Intellectual Property Organization, exchange of views was made on the significance of intellectual property for SMBs and the support measures implemented in this regard in our country.

Organized by the Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a round table on "Development of the modern intellectual property ecosystem: evolution of intellectual property offices and training of specialists" was held.

Representatives from state bodies and higher education institutions attended the event.

Kamran Imanov, Chairman of the Board of Intellectual Property Agency, and Hasan Kleib, Deputy Director General of WIPO, stated their views on the subject at the round table.

Orkhan Mammadov, Chairman of the Board of the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (KOBİA), provided information on the importance of intellectual property for SMBs and the activities of the Agency in this field. It was highlighted that intellectual property allows an SMB to stand out from other enterprises and competitors. Research shows that SMB entities with intellectual property rights yield more revenue than those that do not own any product or service. KOBİA also renders support to SMBs in terms of intellectual property issues. Consequently, the Agency delivers information to SMBs about intellectual property rights, the significance of trademarks and patents for business, their acquisition, and provides training and consulting services. Under the grant mechanism of the Agency, support is provided for the acquisition of patents, registration of startups promoting innovative entrepreneurship, sales, patenting and promotion of products (services) in foreign markets. SMBs that receive a "Startup" certificate from KOBİA register their trademark. Intellectual Property Agency in SMB Houses offers services to entrepreneurs on acquiring a patent, registering trademarks and geographical indications.
