Small and Medium Business Development Agency (SMBDA) of the Republic of Azerbaijan and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission in Azerbaijan have launched a new initiative to support business and professional associations operating in our country.
The purpose of the initiative is to develop partnerships among the state, private and civil society on social and economic goals, and highlight the role of business partnerships, organization of entrepreneurs and business associations in the field.
To this end, on February 18, a summit was held on "Supporting Business and Professional Associations in Azerbaijan" with the participation of state agencies, international organizations, business associations, and civil society institutions.
Speaking at the event, Orkhan Mammadov mentioned the government's efforts to organize entrepreneurs representing various sectors of the economy, including the activities of Agency, promotional activities, support for the establishment and development of sectoral associations and public unions. It was noted that the initiative launched by SMBDA and USAID in this area would be important for the public and private sectors.
Jaidev “Jay” Singh, Director of USAID Mission in Azerbaijan, noted that business associations that receive the technical support could transfer it to more small and medium businesses. As part of the initiative, USAID will provide some financial support to strengthen associations by evaluating projects to be proposed by business associations, public unions and NGOs. In this context, an establishment of a consortium will also be encouraged among business entities, public unions, business associations, and NGOs.
The panel discussions on the topics such as "Business and Professional Association Models in the World and Their Importance," "What makes Business and Professional Associations More Effective?” were also organized within the summit. Specialists from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, and the USA delivered speeches on the topic.
