The Small and Medium Business Development Agency (SMBDA) of the Republic of Azerbaijan held the meeting with entrepreneurs operating in the tourism sector to study the impact of coronavirus (COVID-19) infection spread worldwide on local entrepreneurs.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the State Tourism Agency, the working Committee on Tourism and Services of the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers), various associations operating in the tourism sector, as well as about 30 tourism companies.
Given the large number of small and medium businesses (SMBs) operating in the field of tourism, one of the priorities of the non-oil sector, Orkhan Mammadov, Chairman of the Board of SMBDA, highlighted that the meeting aims to examine the possible impact of the coronavirus epidemic on the tourism sector of Azerbaijan, business, in general, as well as the problems faced by SMBs, to discuss ways to minimize possible impacts, and to study the expectations and proposals of the tourism sector.
At the meeting, tourism associations and companies highlighted that the flow of domestic and foreign tourists reduced, pre-booked tours and hotel reservations had been cancelled, the tourism sector had lost certain revenues because of the postponement of various events, especially those related to Novruz holiday, solutions on the problem were discussed, and proposals were made.
During the event, a survey was conducted among entrepreneurs to assess the impact of coronavirus infection on business activities.
