Social Entrepreneurship and Employment Center in Sumgayit

At the center, vocational and business literacy of the tailoring profession will be provided to support the self-employment and start of entrepreneurship of people from vulnerable social groups.

The Social Entrepreneurship and Employment Center has started operating in Sumgayit. At the center, people from vulnerable social groups will initially learn tailoring skills, and textile products will be produced concurrently. It is planned to expand the number of professions to be taught at the center in line with the demands of the labour market.

The Center was established with the support of the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (KOBİA), the State Employment Agency, the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation, the Agency for Sustainable and Operational Social Security, "Azersu" OJSC, "Azermash" OJSC, Baku Engineering University, "FORIELLA" LLC, "Ekvita", Baku Textile Factory, and "Disabled Entrepreneurs Organization" Public Union.

The Center has established the prerequisites and furnished the appropriate equipment so that members of the disabled and vulnerable social groups can pick up the skills required for tailoring. Those who master professional skills at the center to launch a microbusiness will also be provided with training, consulting, and mentoring support services. After completing the vocational and business training successfully, vulnerable social groups will be contacted through relevant institutions to provide them with appropriate equipment within the scope of the self-employment program at the next stage. Furthermore, project partners will also offer consultancy services to beneficiaries under the business plan development, management and development of business activities. Successful vocational training graduates also have the opportunity to be employed at the center.

It is noteworthy that the Social Entrepreneurship and Employment Center established in the city of Sumgayit is the second largest. Prior to that, a similar center was established in Masalli district and still going strong today. The establishment of such centers aims to facilitate the integration of people from vulnerable and disabled social groups into society, expand their business acumen, improve social business activities, encourage new business initiatives, and support the access of socially vulnerable groups to the labour market. It is planned to launch such centers in other cities and districts across the country.
