Support is provided to people with disabilities to start a business and develop entrepreneurial activity

December 3rd is International Day of Disabled Persons. The involvement of people with disabilities in entrepreneurial activity and self-employment programs is important in ensuring their integration into society and employment. For this purpose, the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (SMBDA) promotes entrepreneurship among people with disabilities, supports their start-ups and business development through various state support mechanisms, provides business training and consulting services, coordination, product promotion, and sales.

People with disabilities can benefit from free training, consulting, networking, and other services of SMB development centers operating in Baku, Sumgait, Khachmaz, and Yevlakh to build their businesses and expand existing entrepreneurial activity. So far, about 50 people with disabilities have used the training and consulting services of SMBDA to start a business and develop entrepreneurial activity. “SMB Friend” network and SMB development centers of the Agency link people with disabilities to self-employment programs to provide them with the goods and equipment they need to start a business and provide appropriate support in this direction.

The Agency also provides support for the promotion and sale of their products. So far, by providing free participation of about 70 people with disabilities in more than ten exhibitions, fairs, and festivals, SMBDA has supported the promotion and sale of their products and the establishment of business contacts. In 2019 on the eve of International Day of Disabled Persons, SMBDA organized a sale exhibition of handicrafts of about 20 people with disabilities.

In general, with the participation of people with disabilities, about 20 events, such as training, exhibitions, conferences, etc. have been organized with the support of SMBDA; more than 100 people with disabilities have benefited from the support and services of the Agency to start a business and expand entrepreneurial activity. One of the 15 organizations represented in the Public Council under SMBDA is the Public Union “Organization of Entrepreneurs with Disabilities”, and several events and projects have been implemented in the framework of cooperation so far.
