A meeting was held with the Ambassador of Argentina to Azerbaijan at SMBDA 19.10.20
A meeting was held with the Ambassador of Argentina to Azerbaijan at SMBDA

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Argentina to the Republic of Azerbaijan Sergio Osvaldo Perez Gunella has visited the Small and Medium Business Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SMBDA).

At the meeting with the Chairman of the Management Board to SMBDA Orkhan Mammadov, information was given about the military provocation of Armenia against Azerbaijan since September 27. It was stressed that despite the UN Security Council resolutions on the withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, our lands have been under Armenian occupation for about 30 years. The main target of Armenia's recent military provocation against Azerbaijan is the civilian population and facilities. To ensure the security of our citizens, a counter-offensive operation within the framework of international humanitarian law is being carried out on the territory of Azerbaijan. On October 11 and October 17, Armenian armed forces, in violation of the humanitarian ceasefire reached between the parties on October 10, launched a missile on Ganja city, Azerbaijan. As a result, a number of civilians, including children were killed and wounded. Besides, as a result of Armenia`s provocation, Azerbaijani enterpreneurs, especially SMB entities have suffered a lot of damage. At present, SMBDA is taking measures of data collection and on-site study to assess the damage caused to entrepreneurs. So far, SMBDA has been informed of about 200 entrepreneurs managing households or working in the fields of Trade and Public Catering, who became victims of Armenian provocations.

At the meeting, the Chairman of SMBDA stressed the importance of establishing relations between business entities of Azerbaijan and Argentina and expanding existing cooperation, adding that both countries have great potential in this area. It was noted that SMBDA is interested in cooperation with the relevant agencies of Argentina in studying the best international practices in the field of Small and Medium Businesses (SMBs) development. Orkhan Mammadov also informed about the state support measures carried out to support SMBs during the pandemic, as well as the activities of SMBDA in this field.

Ambassador Gunella expressed regret over the loss of life and injuries of civilians as a result of the recent events. Stressing the attractiveness of the favorable business environment created in our country for foreign investors, the Ambassador noted the need to continue appropriate measures to eliminate the negative impact of the pandemic on SMBs.

At the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on the possibilities of creating joint ventures in the fields of Agriculture, Food Processing, Renewable Energy in Azerbaijan, as well as on the exchange of potential investment projects on Real Estate, Pharmaceuticals, Tourism, ICT, Public-Private Partnership (PPP), and other fields, and agreed to expand cooperation between SMBDA and the relevant agencies of Argentina.
