First Meeting of the Azerbaijan–Qatar Joint Business Council Held

The event featured an exchange of views on expanding cooperation between business communities within the framework of the Business Council, implementing joint projects, and defining the Council’s activities for the upcoming period.

The inaugural meeting of the Azerbaijan-Qatar Joint Business Council was held in Doha within the framework of the 4th session of the Joint Economic, Trade, and Technical Commission between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the State of Qatar. The event was organized by the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (KOBİA) and the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and was attended by officials as well as business representatives from both countries. Nearly 30 Azerbaijani companies and business associations operating in sectors such as tourism, services, industry, construction, architecture, and textiles participated in the session.

At the event, the co-chairs of the Joint Economic, Trade, and Technical Commission Ahmad bin Mohamed Al-Sayed, Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Trade, and Kamaladdin Heydarov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Emergency Situations Elnur Aliyev, First Deputy Minister of Economy Mohammed bin Ahmed bin Towar, First Vice-Chairman of the Qatar Chamber; as well as the co-chairs of the Azerbaijan-Qatar Joint Business Council Orkhan Mammadov, Chairman of the Board of KOBİA, and Mohammed bin Jowhar Al-Mohammed, Board Member of the Qatar Chamber delivered remarks. Their speeches highlighted the current state of economic and trade relations between Azerbaijan and Qatar, prospects for expanding cooperation, and opportunities for implementing joint projects and initiatives involving the business communities of both countries.

Within the framework of the Business Council meeting, presentations were delivered by AZPROMO (Export and Investment Promotion Agency of Azerbaijan), the Authority of the Alat Free Economic Zone, Qatar’s Investment Promotion Agency, and Qatar Tourism, providing information on the business and investment opportunities of Azerbaijan and Qatar, as well as on the functioning of the Alat Free Economic Zone.

Azerbaijani and Qatari business representatives also briefed participants on the activities of their companies and potential avenues for cooperation. “B2B” meetings between entrepreneurs were held on the sidelines of the event.

As part of the visit, KOBİA representatives also met with Abdurrahman bin Hesham Al-Sowaidi, Chief Executive Officer of the Qatar Development Bank. The meeting included an exchange of views on cooperation opportunities across various sectors involving business communities and on financing instruments available for SMEs.
