The Small and Medium Business Development Agency (SMBDA) was represented at the annual congress of the World Association of PPP Units and Professionals (WAPPP). At an online panel on CIS countries, arranged on June 14-16, 2006, deputy chairman of the SMBDA Board Mehman Abbas provided the participants with detailed information on the measures to develop a favorable business and investment and public-private partnership (PPP) environment created as a result of the reforms performed in Azerbaijan. He also noted the possibility of using the PPP model in restoring the destroyed public infrastructure of the liberated Karabakh.

At a panel with the participation of the heads of the PPP centers of Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, the PPP opportunities in the entire region, the upcoming key challenges, and future trends in the model development have been discussed and questions answered.

Note that the SMBDA’s Public-Private Partnership Development Center is a member of the World Association of PPP Units and Professionals (WAPPP). WAPPP is an international non-governmental organization uniting experts and agencies from different countries of the world, operating in, or associated with the PPP sphere. The main goal of the Association is to perform educational activities to provide quality services in the field of PPP, create an institutional network between structures in this area, and support them.
