An event was organized by the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (KOBİA) with the support of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the Ministry of Economy to prepare for the next evaluation stage of the Small and Medium Enterprise Policy Index (SME Policy Index). Representatives of relevant government agencies and private sector attended the event.
The evaluation has been conducted annually for the past ten years, according to Emil Majidov, advisor to the minister of economy, and is crucial for enhancing efforts related to developing small and medium-sized businesses (SMB). Emil Majidov encouraged the relevant agencies to actively engage in the evaluation process after noting the numerous measures and fresh efforts that have been implemented by various agencies in the sphere of the growth of the SME sector in our country.
Then the representatives of the Ministry of Economy, KOBİA, Entrepreneurship Development Fund and the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers) Organizations made speeches about the support of SME entities by the relevant agencies, continuous improvement of the business environment and business expectations.
During the session, OECD experts provided information on the upcoming evaluations and the advancements made by Azerbaijan in light of the previous "Small and Medium Enterprise Policy Index" (SME Policy Index) evaluation, as well as answered participants' questions.
It should be noted that the "Small and Medium Enterprise Policy Index" (SME Policy Index) is a tool that permits comparisons with European Union member states and other top worldwide practices to evaluate the process of developing and implementing policies for SMEs. The evaluation was developed by the OECD in cooperation with the European Union, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Training Foundation and has been implemented in the Eastern Partnership countries since 2012.
