Panel discussions on the role of SMBs in the green economy

During the conference on "The role of small and medium enterprises in the green economy," two panel sessions were arranged. 

Backed by the ministries of economy, ecology, and natural resources, and conducted by the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (KOBİA), the conference proceeded with panel talks.

In the panel on "The necessity of the green transition for SMBs," participants included Huseyn Huseynov, head of the department of Sustainable development and social Policy of the Ministry of Economy, Samira Musayeva, deputy head of the state tax service, Shabnam Mammadova, head of the "SmartNation" Platform and member of the COP29 Organizing Committee, Ashley Rowlands, Project Director of "ACWA Power Azerbaijan Renewable Energy" LLC, energy expert Jahangir Afandiyev, and Ilkin Hajiyev, partner of "Sustainera Solutions. " They discussed the government's priorities in enhancing the role of the green economy, the impact of carbon footprint indicators on exports, increasing the potential of SMBs through renewable energy partnerships, the role of energy efficiency in reducing carbon emissions, the importance of SMBs in achieving net-zero targets, and the potential to accelerate the green transition of SMBs.

In the panel on "Climate finance and SMBs," Eldar Ahmadov, deputy head of the Economic Department of the Ministry of Energy, Kenan Mammadov, lead Economist of the Sustainable finance department of the Central Bank, Javanshir Abdullayev, honorary director of the Azerbaijan Bank Training Center, Mehman Abbas, expert in strategic and management issues and founding partner of "Caspian Group," and Berk Öztürk, deputy director of the Strategy office of the International Bank of Azerbaijan, shared their visions and strategic plans for expanding green finance, mechanisms for financing the green transition through the Energy Fund, and the preparedness of financial market participants for green financing. Subsequent to discussions on both panels, the entrepreneurs' questions were addressed.
